How Akoko-Edo Security Vehicle Was Diverted to Adjoto’s House

A Toyota Sienna vehicle (Chassis number withheld) allocated to the Ikakumo Police Post of the Ibillo Police division in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area by the Edo state government for security purposes, has allegedly been cornered and is currently parked in Honourable Kabiru Adjoto’s house, according to our sources.
Following the hues and cries of the people in the area over the challenge of insecurity and the seeming neglect by the state authorities, the Edo state government responded by sending four Toyota Sienna vehicles to assist in more effective patrols by the police.
It has therefore become a cause for concern to the people that while the other police divisions in Igarra, Okpe and Ososo have received theirs, the one for Ibillo Division is lying idle in the residence of the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly contrary to the address it was sent and the purpose for which it is meant.
The letter of release titled: “Allocation of Sienna Vehicles for Special Security Duties” dated December 23, 2022 which bore the insignia of the office of the Deputy Governor was signed on behalf of the permanent secretary by a certain Faith Irabor.
The copy of the letter sighted by interfacenewshub.com, with reference number ODG/538/91 was specifically addressed to the Ikakumo Police Post of the Ibillo Division of the Nigerian Police Force and has no mention of Honourable Adjoto.
The letter stated in the opening paragraph as follows: “I wish to refer to the above subject and to inform you that approval has been given for ONE Sienna Vehicle to be allocated to you at this yuletide season for security duties ONLY”. (The capitals in the word only is by interfacenewshub.com). The vehicles which were originally meant for temporary use just for the yuletide season were later approved for permanent use.
According to a concerned indigene who wishes to remain anonymous, “ this is how our representatives habitually convert what is meant for the generality of the people to personal property”.
Sources say that residents are worried that at a time when criminal activities within the area is increasing and becoming more devastating, a lifeline which is meant to curtail the situation is being subverted by Hon. Adjoto.
In a telephone conversation, the Ibillo Divisional Police Officer CSP Saramu Amatere confirmed the story to www.interfacenewshub.com.
Amatere further revealed that the former speaker was the one who broke the news of the approval to him, asking him to make arrangements for its collection.
According to the DPO, after the Officer in charge of the Ikakumo police post had picked the vehicle and on his way back to base, he reported to him (Amatere) that Adjoto called him and instructed that the vehicle be parked in his house and not in the police post or the divisional headquarters. He added that Adjoto claims he wants to secure personnel and arms for the vehicle first.
After two days of trying to reach Honourable Adjoto for his side of the story which he did not pick nor call back, he finally picked on Sunday (today) but said he would not respond to us because he does not know us. This was after a proper introduction had been done.
