The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited will be holding the “Nigerian Satellite Week,” from October 16 to 19, 2024, about a fortnight from date.

This announcement was made via a press release signed by the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Aisha Bantam, made available to the media on Tuesday.

This week-long event aims to highlight the importance of satellite technology in driving innovation, connectivity, and economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa. In addition, the event will serve as a platform for stakeholders, industry leaders, and innovators to come together, share insights, and explore the future of satellite technology in various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and telecommunication.

The event is themed “Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Future: Innovations in Satellite Technology and Entrepreneurship”, and will feature a series of engaging activities designed to foster collaboration and showcase advancements in the satellite industry.

The week will kick off with a Press Day, where NIGCOMSAT will officially announce the event and provide insights into the significance of satellite technology in Nigeria. There will be a Stakeholders Forum where industry leaders, government officials and academic experts would discuss the current state and future prospects of satellite technology in Nigeria. Participants will explore collaborative opportunities and share best practices to enhance the satellite ecosystem in the region.

NIGCOMSAT will also showcase the innovative solutions developed by the 20 space and satellite-based startups enrolled in the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme. This demo will highlight the creativity and potential of emerging entrepreneurs in the satellite industry, providing them with a platform to present their groundbreaking ideas to potential investors and partners.

The week will culminate in a Dinner and Awards Night, celebrating outstanding contributions to the satellite industry. This event will honour individuals and organisations that have made significant strides in advancing satellite technology and promoting its benefits across Nigeria.

Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT Ltd., expresses her enthusiasm for the event and its potential to advance Nigeria’s position in the global satellite market.

Whilst inviting all stakeholders, industry professionals, and the general public to participate in the Nigerian Satellite Week, Egerton-Idehen thanks all those who have contributed to the growth and development of the satellite industry in Nigeria.
