The member representing Akoko-Edo federal constituency in the House of Representatives who also doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader in the house, Honourable Peter Akpatason has disclosed that the bills for the establishment of two tertiary institutions in the constituency have been passed the two Chambers of the National Assembly.
Akpatason disclosed this while answering questions put to him by the constituents during an online town hall meeting oraganised by the Akoko-Edo fforum, a pan Akoko-Edo organisation.
The town hall which is first of its kind, held for over two hours on Saturday 29th of January,2022 and provided him opportunity of interfacing, albeit virtually, with a good number of constituents from around the world.
He pledged his unflinching support for the AEF mission and the forum’s desire to grow the Local Government into a fully developed one.
The two bills, Akoko-Edo School of Mining and Geology and the Federal University of Agriculture, have been passed by both chambers of the National Assembly according to him and are currently with the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The honorable member called on his constituents to join forces with other critical stakeholders to ensure the signing of the two bills by the President before the end of the year.
He noted that even though the issue of the shoddy repair work on Lawani street in Igarra was politised, useful lessons concerning projects supervision and monitoring were learnt which will serve as useful guides in the future.
On his mentorship program, he promised to revive it with the active participation of highly skilled Akoko-Edo indigenes both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
To deal with the insecurity in the area, Hon Akpatason disclosed that he provided patrol bikes to the vigilante group in order to ward off criminals who are known to, mostly, come from neighboring states.
