Juventus were beaten at the Allianz Arena by newly promoted Empoli. In their first match after the Departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the result and the generally toothless performance that accompanied it points to a bleak future for the Old lady.
They started well enough with the electric Frederico Chiesa twice testing the Empoli goalkeeper after two brilliant solo runs in the early stages. Empoli however took a surprising lead through Leonardo Mancuso, who forced home a ball that deflected into his part. That goal seemed to deflate Juventus, who could not create any other meaningful chance allowing the Serie B champions to see out their lead and record a famous victory.
The performance of Massimiliano Allegri’s man was suggestive of a team still reliant on Ronaldo’s goals however, last season’s Serie A top scorer has departed them and they must warm up to that reality and find a way to score goals without him. The coach alluded to this fact.
Speaking after the match the coach said, ” Cristiano spent three years at Juventus, he scored goals which he is very good at, he’s an extraordinary player but we cannot think about Ronaldo from now on”
Allegri went on to comment on how Juventus lost the game and called for his team to be more solid but equally expressed assurance that his team’s qualities will emerge soon and propel them to win matches.
