FG Unveils New, Revised Handbook on Citizenship Administration

Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that implementing the content codified in the new handbook on citizenship administration would lead to a better Nigeria.

The Minister expressed optimism on Thursday while unveiling the new handbook on citizenship administration in Abuja.

He contended that it will aid in the implementation of the Ministry’s policies and procedures as it relates to citizenship administration for the growth of the country.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, however, acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the stakeholders assuring it will yield to best practices, resulting to quality service delivery and citizenship integrity in Nigeria.

The Minister further assured that the government will continue to seek out and entrench global best practices in various aspects of the country’s internal security architecture. He emphasized that improvement of the country’s internal security is on the priority list of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Earlier in her welcome remark, the Permanent Secretary Dr. Aishatu Gogo Ndayako expounded the activities of the Ministry of Interior from the country’s constitution in section 25 to section 32 as amended.

Dr. Gogo Ndayako said the Department of Citizenship and Business of the ministry is saddled with the responsibility for determining citizenship grant as part of its mandates, while Citizenship Division of the Department is responsible for processing renunciation of Nigeria citizenship, conduct of statutory marriages.

She said the Business Division is responsible for grant of permits and other categories of Expatriate Quotas.

The Permanent Secretary expressed the hope that the Handbook on Citizenship Administration in Nigeria would ensure positive fulfilment of the mandates of the Ministry, especially in the areas of Citizenship Integrity, internal security, qualitative, courteous and transparent services to Nigerians and foreigners alike.

Dignitaries in attendance are Conyrollet- Generals of various services in the Ministry, Directors and staff of the ministry, stakeholders and well wishers.
