Don’t be Scammed, We Have Discontinued Direct Development Interventions, Special Projects Funding – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated that under the current management , it is no longer involved in direct development interventions or special projects funding as was obtainable under the erstwhile Godwin Emefiele management or any other previous teams.

The clarification became necessary as the apex bank got wind of the nefarious activities of fraudsters who have been on the prowl to dupe unsuspecting members of the public with fake letters of award of contracts.

In a statement Issued on Monday and signed by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali (Mrs), the bank stated that it “wishes to alert members of the public to the activities of fraudsters purporting to be in receipt of award letters of contracts related to construction works and special financial interventions on behalf of the Bank.”

“We wish to clarify that this is false. Those individuals are solely motivated by the desire to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. Any such assertions are fraudulent and should be disregarded.

“The Bank hereby reiterates that, in line with the focus of its current manacement, it has discontinued direct development interventions and special projects funding.

The bank also stressed that it has not authorised any publications of any notices or advertisement of such interventions in the media.

“Furthermore, CBN has not authorised public notices for such interventions on social media platforms or any other news outlet.

“The CBN remains committed to its core mandate of ensuring monetary and price stability, ard a sound and efficient financial system in Nigeria.

In addition the bank urged the public not only to desist from entertaining such propositions but also to report such attempts or publications to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

“We, therefore, encourage the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or publications to the relevant law enforcement agencies.
