The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has just announced the postponement of the governorship and state assemblies election early scheduled for Saturday 11 March 2023.
The election is now to come up on Saturday 18 March 2023 a week later than earliar planned.
This development may not be unconnected with the request by some parties in the Presidential election who approached the court to inspect the election materials having disputed the outcome of the election; the parties are Labour Party (LP) and The People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
This is because if the umpire is to accede to this request it may not have sufficient time to reconfigure the BVAS machines in preparation for the governorship elections.
This postponement therefore will most probably provide enough time for the parties to carry out their inspection of election materials and for the electoral bodies to reconfigure the BVAS machines in readiness for the governorship elections.
