The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has commended all the service providers engaged by the Ministry and its services/Board for their dedications to using the public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements towards improving service delivery; and for making it revenue generating means to Federal Government of Nigeria.
Ogbeni made this known in Abuja during his opening remarks at the Quarterly Performance Review meeting of the service providers engaged by the Ministry and its Services/Board from January to December 2022 held at Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Sauka Abuja .
Aregbesola stated that governments across the World are very keen on using the Public -Private -Partnership (PPP) arrangement as an innovative way to provide infrastructure and Public Services.
“While PPPs are gaining a solid foothold, it is also true that there are a lot of impediments and challenges today. Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to showcase and review our performance and achievements in the year 2022 in a bid to improve the quality of services being rendered to the citizenry”, Aregbesola reiterated.
The Minister commended the Comptroller
General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Alhaji Isah Idris Jere, for the empowerment of women squad in the service by allowing women to carry sophisticated weapons, which earned the service special commendation, adding that he has high advocacy for women.
Aregbesola revealed that he has less than 36 days in office as Minister of Interior, noting that since the meeting is on quarterly basis, this will be his last time to attend the Quarterly Performance Review Meeting.
Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, represented by Director Planning and Research and Statistics (PRS), Mr A O Bello, noted that the performance Review meeting is organised by the Ministry as part of its effort to engage with Service Providers to review 2022 performance and ascertained the level of achievements in the past year while identifying areas of challenges that the meeting could resolve for effective implementation of the public -private partnership programme (PPP).
“It is imperative to carry out the periodic review of the companies handling projects of the Ministry to quickly identify the challenges encountered by the providers for effective implementation of the projects in line with the contract agreement” Belgore reiterated.
He also added that the action points agreed at the last meeting have been addressed by the companies in order to improve the quality of services being rendered to the Ministry and Services.
Other dignitaries at the event include the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Alhaji Isah Idris Jere, DCG Haliru Gishiri in charge of Visa, ACG U Babangida Human Resources, DCG Adepoju, DCG Finance and Account, ACG S Hassan, ACG PPT and Directors from the Ministry of Interior .
