Alleged Diversion of N7bn: TETFUND Boss, Sonny Echono, Undergoes Intense Grilling By EFCC, ICPC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its counterpart, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission( ICPC) have quizzed the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFUND) Mr Sonny Echono over alleged abuse of due process and diversion of public funds to the tune of N7bn .

Impeccable sources from the Anti-corruption agencies who preferred to be anonymous confirmed that the former Permanent Secretary who had been in ICPC’s custody a few days earlier was also invited by the EFCC today (Wednesday) for further questioning.

He was said to have been granted administrative bail through a Permanent Secretary in one of the ministries at the ICPC.

The embattled TETFUND boss had been facing alleged corruption charges and had been detained at ICPC for questioning before now.

Under his watch, TETfund allegedly awarded two contracts to Fides Et Ratio Academy and Pole Global Marketing within two months at the cost of N3.8 billion respectively, without the approval of the Federal Executive Council, which is required for the contract size.

The contract was to provide capacity-building courses and learning management systems to about 2 million students across higher institutions in the count

In a rejoinder however, TETFund has denied the allegation insisting that it did not award N7.6 billion contracts to the two companies without due process.
