Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Disrupted Following Explosives Attacks

As Senator Shehu Sani , Others Escape Death

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has suspended its train service on the Abuja- Kaduna route following coordinated attacks on its infrastructure and train which occurred Wednesday evening and Thursday morning by persons suspected to be bandits.

A former Nigerian Senator, Shehu Sani had earlier on Thursday posted his experience on social media while in the train on a trip to Abuja.

In the post, the senator stated that explosives were planted on the rail track between Dutse and RijanaStations.

According to the senator, “ Yesterday, terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train targeting the Engine Driver and the tank.

“This morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged rail. It took a miracle for us to escape. The train nearly skid off its track then we miraculously escaped.

“All train operations need to be suspended for today until this issue is addressed”, he advised.

The Kaduna State government has since confirmed the incident.

The Managing Director of the Corporation has however assured that efforts are currently on-going to ensure that the train services along the route are fully restored.
