VDM Revelation: FG Suspends 2 DCCs, Others to Pave Way for Seamless Investigation

Two Deputy Controllers of Corrections, Michael Anugwa of the Medium Security Custodial Centre and Sikiru Adekunle of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, both in Kirikiri in Lagos State have been suspended by the Board of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services.

According to the Board’s statement, it took the action, “following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.”

It will be recalled that a popular online activist, Martins Vincent Otse, more popularly known as Very Dark Man ( VDM) had a few days ago published a voice note in which Bobrisky allegedly revealed that he spent the period of his jail term in an arranged deluxe apartment instead of the jail premises.

According to the voice note credited to the popular crossdresser, this was made possible due to the intervention of his godfather, whose specific identity remains a mystery for now. The voice note also contains other sordid revelations involving another anti- corruption agency, EFCC.

The Board also suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.

In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.

The statement explained that “the suspension of these Officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.”
