Cabinet Reshuffle: Tinubu Replaces Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Scraps Sports Ministry, Merges 2 Others

In what can be regarded as a minor cabinet shake-up, President Bola Tinubu has approved a reshuffle of his ministerial cabinet. It is not yet clear though whether there are other related announcements that will be made soon.

The decision was made during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesperson.

According to Onanuga, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is to be replaced with the Ministry of Regional Development which will oversee the Affairs of the various development Commissions in the country.

This will also mean the automatic creation of new development Commissions for regions that do not currently have and most probably a restructuring of the NNDC which currently includes states in the South South and South East regions as of now

The spokesman added that Tinubu approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy while the National Sports Commission takes over the mandate of the Ministry of Sports Development which has now been scrapped.

There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.

“President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development.

“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy,” Onanuga said
