Allow Easy Access to Visa: FG Appeals to Canadian Government

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appealed to the Canadian Government to remove strict conditions surrounding the procurement of Visa for Nigerians, in order to create a synergy between both countries thereby boost investment and accelerate their economic growth.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the appeal in Abuja, during a courtesy visit by the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, James Christoff alongside his team, on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

On security matters, the Minister urged the Canadian government to assist Nigeria by sharing her technological innovations that will promote installation of facilities to monitor movements in Nigeria borders (high seas, lands, railways and schools) in order to achieve swift responses that will fast track investment opportunities in Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, the Canadian Ambassador to Nigeria, James hristoff pledged the commitment of his country to review some of the conditions in getting visa to her country such that Nigerians can access Canada without much difficulties.

Christoff disclosed that the purpose of the visit was to seek for bilateral cooperation with Nigeria in the areas of Economy, Security,Technology, Education and Training of Immigration Officers on efficient border monitoring for security purposes.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore stated that the partnership and cooperation of Nigeria and Canadian Government will go a long way in developing both countries as well as bringing an end to their security challenges.
