Implementation of Second National Action Plan: OGP CEO Visits Nigeria

Open Government Partnership CEO, Sanjay Pradhan and other Global Stakeholders have visited Nigeria with the sole aim of getting top political support for the implementation of the second National Action Plan, to help secure top political support for the OGP, beyond the 2023 elections.

The National Coordinator, Open Government Partnership Nigeria, Dr. Gloria Amhed and her team received the high level delegation on behalf of the Honourable Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, Co-chairs (state actors), and Dr. Tayo Aduloju (none state actors).

The purpose of the global high-level visit to Nigeria, is also to support the implementation of existing OGP commitments, including the OGP MDTF supported commitment to institute a beneficial ownership register.

During his weeklong working visit to Nigeria, Pradhan will be holding top Meetings with the Government on the implementation of the National Action Plan developed by Nigeria, and will also be meeting with Civil Society Organisations as well as International Donors.

The OGP CEO will also support co-creation of Nigeria’s third National Action Plan (NAP 3), to facilitate donor support for OGP and open government reforms in 2022 and beyond the 2023 elections.

Nigeria is currently wrapping up the implementation of its second OGP action plan. This plan continues commitments on beneficial ownership, budget openness, public contracts, extractive industry, and implementation of freedom of information legislation from its first Action Plan.

The plan also provides a new focus on improved service delivery, inclusion and civic space.
