Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani of the All Progressive Congress APC made history on Friday, as she emerged as the governorship flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State as well as the first female flagbearer of any political party in Adamawa State.
In the primaries held at the Lamido Cinema she beat 5 male contestants to clinch the victory. The contestants that lost the ticket to her are the former EFCC boss, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who scored 288, ,former Governor Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, who scored 103 and serving House of Representatives member Hon Namdaz Abdulrazak 94; Hon Wafari Theman 21and Umar Mustapha Otumba 39 votes respectively.
Announcing the results, the chairman of primaries committee, Alhaji Gambo Lawal said a total number of 1130 delegates were accredited and a total of 1011 votes were cast, while number of invalid votes is 36.
“Of the total number of valid votes cast Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani scored 430 and haven scored the highest number of votes casts she is hereby returned has the winner of the primary elections”, he added.
Nuhu Ribadu, INEC officials and APC observers however raised eyebrows over discrepancy ibeteeen the legal number of delegates which stands at 1009 and the 1011 results obtained.
INEC officials on standby also asked relevant questions about how the Chairman got 1130 votes accredited during the elections, instead of 1009 known by the umpire.
The former EFCC boss Nuhu Ribadu who came second rejected the elections saying it lacks transparency adding that there is need to trace those ghost delegates that voted.
