NAICOM Charges AIO on Deepening African Insurance Market

As New President, Tope Smart, Is Sworn In

The Commissioner of Insurane and Chief Executive of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olurundare Sunday Thomas, has charged the newly elected leadership of the African Insurance Organization (AIO) to persuade “governments across the continent to play their roles in providing the necessary support, creating an enabling environment for insurance activities to flourish, continued lifting of border barriers making movement of resources almost impossible, promote healthy competitions amongst member state across the continent promoting knowledge sharing across the continent, among other objectives that will make insurance business thrive within the African market

Thomas gave the charge during the investiture of the new President of the African insurance Organisation, Mr. Tope Smart, which held d at the Eko Hotel in Victoria, Lagos on Wednesday.
He challenged the new leadership to make its tenure memorable through credible achievement especially as the tenure coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the organization.
“Let me charge the new leadership that by the year 2022 the AIO will celebrate its golden jubilee (50 years) being established in 1972 which means you can also write your name in gold for coming on board at this critical time.
“We expect to see great strides and landmark achievements when your tenure is over and the baton will change hands”.
He also used the opportunity to commend the outgoing leadership of the organization for their stewardship.
