GT, Access, Other Banks Comply With CBN’s Weekend Banking Order in Abuja

Banks in Abuja have largely complied with the instruction to open for services on weekends given yesterday by the apex bankif our findings in the Wuse 2 area is anything to go by.

Our medium, interfacenewshub.com, was able to confirm that most banks on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II were open and rendered services to customers Saturday.

The 2 GTbank branches, the one by AP Plaza and the one within the Sticks and Stones Plaza, the Keystone Bank, the Access bank by Diamond Bank bus Stop junction and Zenith Bank. The only exception confirmed by us is the First Bank Opposite H-Medix Pharmacy.

Oter confirmations we got relying on third party report is that of United Bank for Africa on Aminu Kano Crescent ner GloTelecommunications Officeas well as Ecobank and First Bank both in Suleja, a Niger State town bordering the Federal Capital Territory

Most of the banks we visited opened at 9.am but had different closing times. While the Access bank closed at 3 pm, the GT branches were still open at 3.20 and 3.23pm respectively and stated that they are to close at 4pm.

Both banks also promised to open tomorrow Sunday with Access bank stating that they will open tomorrow at 11am.

A few customers spoken to felt quite relieved even though they felt that this should have happened much earlier. One of them, Thomas Okon, was asked whether this would prevent the picketing of CBN offices nationwide by workers unions scheduled to commence on Monday.

Okon‘s reply: “I don’t think so, except if the apex bank can also engage the labour union leadership and get them to reverse the order that proclaimed the picketing”. Butressing his point, he said, “it’s just like how banks had to wait for the CBN’s directive even after the Supreme Court had spoken.”
