Lassa Fever Cases Hit 81 in Edo, as 10 New Cases Recorded


The Edo State Ministry of Health has announced the discovery of 10 new cases of Lassa fever in the state bringing the total to 81 cases since the latest outbreak was announced some few weeks ago. Eight deaths have also been confirmed as resulting from the outbreak.
The State’s Commissioner for Health, Professor Obehi Akoria who made the disclosure in Benin City over the weekend while briefing journalists, added that, the new cases were found in 5 local government areas viz: Akoko-Edo, Esan North-East, Esan West, Etsako Central and Etsako West.
While urging residents to play their part by complying with the preventive protocols, the Commissioner assured that the state government is committed to containing the outbreak in order to preserve the healthy well-being of the citizens across the state.
